The tagger-style graffiti at Garfield Arroyo is painted on the sides of a flood control dam spillway in the South Caballos. The images show some interesting parallels with the local ancient rock art.
Like its ancient predecessors, the Garfield site is associated with a desert water source. The themes of the painted images include fertility, drug-induced visions, geometric and naturalistic designs with magical or mythical associations, and territorial demarcation. All of those are probably present at prehistoric rock art sites. Finally, it is possible that the tagger artists are descendents of the people who carved their designs into near-by canyon walls a thousand years ago or more.
